The Forge in Thornham Magna is a cafe and tea house that feels like stepping into a cozy local sitting room, especially appreciated on cooler days. Spread over two connected spaces at Red House Yard, it manages to balance a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with a touch of rustic charm—fireplaces in both rooms add to the warming vibe, though on colder days one might still want to bundle up a bit.

Locals and visitors alike seem to enjoy The Forge especially after walks or weekend activities like Parkrun, making it a practical stop for a hearty breakfast or a midday refuel. The seating both indoors and outside allows for flexibility depending on the season and mood—sunny afternoons can be pleasantly spent outside, while the quieter, fire-lit room offers a more intimate setting for those wanting to escape the chill or find a bit of calm.

The menu caters well to a variety of diets, including vegan and dairy-free options, and the kitchen is known to accommodate allergies or special dietary needs with a thoughtful approach. Standout dishes like the cheese scone—also available in a vegan version—hot chocolate, and paninis create a comforting lunch or snack. The Forge also offers a mix of coffee drinks, including reliable classics like flat whites, lattes, and chai lattes, as well as a handful of smoothies and bottled drinks for something different.

Service is both efficient and warm, keeping pace without ever feeling rushed even when the place fills up, which is common on weekend mornings. For many, The Forge has evolved into a regular stop, with people from the nearby town of Eye and even Norwich making the trip for its consistent quality and inviting environment.

Overall, The Forge suits those looking for a laid-back cafe experience with good food and a sense of community, particularly well-matched to chilly days and post-outdoor activity pit stops. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over coffee or grab a dependable lunch before heading out again into the Suffolk countryside.

Popped in with my family for lunch and we were all very happy with our food! The cafe was very cosy and decorated nicely for Christmas. I was unsure what I could have because of dietary requirements and allergies, but the cook spoke to me and helped me figure out what to have. We all had soup and I had mine with a lovely vegan cheese scone which I was very impressed with. After our walk we came back for cake and brownies which we took home with us.

Lovely little cafe with 2 parts, the main cafe and a separate room, both with fireplaces. We chose the separate room as it was quieter and the stove had a fire going. Unfortunately, it was quite cold outside and the room never really got warm whilst we were there, and although the food and hot drinks were lovely, my friend and I never really warmed up. I wished I'd put my thermals on! I would go back but dress more suitably!

Absolutely no complaints after my first visit. Just after a Parkrun (where I’d volunteered and my breakfast companion had participated), the cafe was very busy. Most of the outside seats were taken, but several tables inside were still available. The staff remained unhurried, and were efficient, helpful and courteous. Vegan, vegetarian and dairy-free options were available (we had a vegan sausage bap each), and prices were reasonable. I look forward to visiting again.

I love this place! The food is amazing and well priced for the quality which is outstanding. Told my folks to come and try it for themselves and it's their go to place, now they drive from Norwich for the breakfast! I can't fault the service, very efficient, top quality food, freshly made cakes, good selection of drinks and the coffee's, I often have 2 they're so good and a good walk around Thornham walks where it's situated to... well, walk it off! Highly recommended and a proper little gem.
